The ABPA Harrington Arthur Memorial Scholarship Essay Competition was established to encourage students to develop writing skills and an appreciation for the role of the chemical industry in the global marketplace.

It was also created so as to help reward students that love to broaden their knowledge on the Cross Connection Control and Backflow Prevention and to help in ensuring the safe drinking of pure and clean water.

This Backflow Prevention Process is created to help facilitate and stop the resistance of disease causing agents, bacterias and other harmful agents that makes water impure.

Eligibility Requirements

Age/Grade Level The ABPA Harrington-Arthur Memorial scholarship essay competition is open to all students of high school age (from age 13 and those that will be of age 19 as of December 31, 2023).
Financial Need Not Required
Place Of Residence The Applicant must be a legal residents of the United States or Canada.
School Applicants may currently be a variable attendee of a public, private, or parochial school, or be home-schooled.
Miscellaneous Information Previous winners, and all related ABPA officials and directors, and their immediate families, are not eligible to participate. Further, the immediate relatives of the directors and staff of Federal Student Aid, Semester at Sea, or the National Student Leadership Conference are not eligible to participate.

Essay:

Explain the distinction between a containment cross-connection program and an isolation or primary cross-connection program.

Justify the benefits and downsides of each. which program offers the most effective protection against flow and why.

The essay show more of creativity and exceedingly precise work in English. Illegible, incomplete, solid or plagiarised entries won’t be accepted.

The individual is needed to incorporate an announcement within the essay that this can be his/her original work, that it arises out of the candidates own analysis, and that the work, assistance and ideas of any other individuals are attributable.

The body of the essay shall be no fewer than 700 words and no larger than one, 200 words long (excludes the page, any footnotes, bibliography/references page, and life history page).

Entries should be submitted in 12-point Times New Roman, or the same font, be spaced, and with a one-inch margin on all sides of the page. Graphics are not allowable, a creative copy of the essay should be submitted.

Judging Criterias:

Award selection will be based on how well the essay answers the stated question, on the accuracy of the essay, its clarity and organization, creativity, the citing of sources used, grammar, and spelling.

A completed Entry application form, Applicants biography, Parental Consent Form (If applicant is under age 18).

Award Amount

One scholarship presented as a $1,500 check will be given to the winning candidate.
